Mike Smith to bring Gloucestershire side for opening of new pavilion at Oldlands
9:00am Friday 27th January 2012
A TEAM of former Gloucestershire players will be coming to Oldlands Cricket Club on Sunday, May 27 to mark the opening of the new pavilion at the Abwell ground.
Mike Smith, who played one Test match for England against Australia in 1997, will captain the county side against an Oldlands XI.
Players and supporters have been building the pavilion throughout the winter after the old one was knocked down at the end of last season.
A club spokesman said: “We have been delighted with the kindness of many people who have given donations regarding the new pavilion. This has been very much appreciated by all at Oldlands Cricket Club”
Oldlands will be playing in Division One of the Gloucestershire County League next season after they were promoted last year, while the seconds will be in Division Seven.
As part of the club’s fundraising, they will be holding a ball on Saturday, March 3 at Hamfields Leisure Centre. Tickets cost £40 to include a meal, a glass of wine and an evening of entertainment. Formal dress and black tie is required.
Anyone interested in going is asked to phone 01453 811355 or 01453 811339 for more details.
